Prior to becoming a photographer, I was a Child Life Specialist at Schneider Children’s Hospital, now Cohen Children’s Hospital and worked in the Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Units.
The beautiful little girl below was one of my patients when I worked there. I just learned that she recently had a Bone Marrow Transplant that has cured her from Sickle Cell Anemia.
Did you read that?!?! CURED her!!!
The transplant was from an UNRELATED DONOR…… Proving the importance as to why more ethnic races, mix of ethnicity, etc NEED to register on the Bone Marrow Registry for donation.
Miss Hunter recently had a Bone Marrow Transplant at the age of 14 that has cured her of Sickle Cell Anemia.
Check out her story with this video here: HUNTER
The NATIONAL BONE MARROW DONOR PROGRAM website is filled with resources and information on how to become a Bone Marrow Donor
Thanks for posting this. She is beautiful!
Hey Rachel,
It’s Donna, Hunter’s mom…first let me say, we miss you…Every time someone see’s the picture you took of us they go crazy…It’s still my favorite.
Yes, Hunter has been cured…well, almost…we’ll know for sure in 2 years…but, right now she has no sickle cells…she is 100% donor…Can you believe it? She is so excited…We have no idea what life will be like with Dr.’s appointments and hospital admissions, but we can’t wait to find out…
She has a blog as do I…So, you can keep up with us…

It is definitely a miracle cure. I had a transplant 24 years ago and am now running in a marathon to raise money for others to get and go through the treatment. I’m keeping a blog here http://www.marathonformarrow.org
